9. CULINARY CORNER: Baked Apples With Oatmeal: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Core out 4 apples and place on a baking sheet. Mix 1 cup oats, ¼ cup brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon, then cut in ¼ cup butter. Fill each apple with the mixture. Bake for about 30 minutes, until tender and bubbling. Top with ice cream.

10. THE LAST WORD: When every shelf, table, and mantel is filled with seasonal decor, a home can start to feel cluttered rather than cozy. 2. COZY TIP OF THE WEEK: If your house is feeling a little chilly, turn on the oven and bake something (does not have to be from scratch, store-bought is fine too). A batch of cookies, a loaf of bread, a pan of brownies, it doesn’t matter what it is. The warmth that fills a home when something is baking in the oven is one of the coziest feelings there is.

5. FROM MY KITCHEN TO YOURS: To celebrate National Great American Pot Pie Day, there’s no better recipe to share than my Instant Pot chicken pot pie casserole. It’s ready in under an hour and is the ultimate cozy fall dinner.

6. UPDATING MY WARDROBE:

I know it’s early to think about Christmas gifts, but check out this plaid tote filled with coziness.

BEHIND THE SCENES: I’ve been binge watching Widow’s Bay on AppleTV (Have you seen it?), flipping through the current issue of Country Living magazine soaking up all the fall inspiration, and making a ridiculous amount of greek chicken salad wraps…Mr. ERH and I can’t get enough lately for some reason!

1. FAVORITE STYLING MOMENT: I wasn’t able to do much seasonal decorating last year, but this year I’ve been savoring the slowness of decorating for fall in a smaller house.

2. EASY DECORATING TIP OF THE WEEK: Give an old piece of furniture new life by using it somewhere unexpected. A small chest can become a bedside table, a bench can work behind a sofa, or an antique chair can fill an empty corner. Repurposing pieces you already own adds character that brand-new furniture often can’t.

3. DID YOU KNOW: Did you know that leaving fallen leaves in a thin layer around garden beds can actually be beneficial? As they break down, they return organic matter to the soil and can provide winter shelter for beneficial insects.

4. FAVORITE FIND OF ALL: I love being able to reuse these fabulous faux pumpkins year after year. No more rotting pumpkins on my front porch! Currently on sale.

5. LOVELY LIVING AND BEYOND: Put your phone away during dinner, even if it’s just an ordinary Tuesday night. Giving the people around your table your full attention is one of the simplest forms of gracious living.

9. HOME HACK: Line the bottom of your trash can with a few sheets of newspaper. Before adding the bag, put newspaper in the bottom of the can. It can absorb small leaks and moisture that make the bottom of the trash can messy and smelly.

10. ANSWER TO READER QUESTION (#5): If your eye doesn’t have anywhere to rest, it may be time to edit. Try removing about a third of the accessories and live with the room for a day or two. You can always put something back, but you may be surprised by how much more you notice and appreciate your favorite pieces when they have a little breathing room.
