This week, I’m sharing a few simple, non-spooky ways to decorate your home for the season, along with beautiful finds and helpful ideas you’ll love. The LIST Ladies have amazing things to share, too! 1. FAVORITE STYLING MOMENT: I’m celebrating green today with a cheery little vignette in my dining room. The vibrant color adds such energy to the space and pops nicely off of the faux grasscloth wallpaper.

2. EASY DECORATING TIP OF THE WEEK: Avoid the stiff, don’t-touch-me look in a room, style throw blankets by casually draping them over the arm or back of a chair or sofa instead of neatly folding them. Why this works: A loosely draped throw helps to soften the look of structured furniture and other hard edges in a room, which makes a space feel lived-in without looking messy.

3. DID YOU KNOW: Did you know that houseplants need to be rotated occasionally to grow evenly and keep them looking full and healthy? Make a habit of turning them every time you water for plants with balanced growth.

4. FAVORITE RECENT PURCHASE: We recently replaced our exterior keyed entry locks with these keyless ones. It has made our lives so much easier! I no longer have to leave a key for my cleaning lady or fumble with a house key when my arms are full of grocery bags.

5. LOVELY LIVING AND BEYOND: Lovely living means being a gracious hostess/host and it begins with how you welcome guests to your home. Create a warm first impression with small touches such as a flower arrangement, a pretty doormat or rug and soft lighting.

6. READER QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Every time I try to decorate my home, I get overwhelmed and second-guess every decision. How can I get past my fear? See #10 for the answer!

7. WEEKLY AWESOME FINDS:

8. WEARABLE STYLE:

9. HOME HACK: Lessen the accumulation of dust on baseboards and indoor window shutters and blinds by wiping them with a dryer sheet. It removes the dust and helps to repel additional dust buildup by leaving a light anti-static coating.

10. ANSWER TO READER QUESTION (#5): You are not alone! The key to overcoming decorating fear is to give yourself permission to make mistakes. Even the pros do. To build your confidence, start with small projects instead of a total room makeover, for example.

1. CHRISTMAS KITCHEN DECORATING IDEAS: You can bring holiday cheer to the heart of your home without cluttering your countertops. Find over 20 simple and cozy ways to make your kitchen feel festive while keeping things functional.

2. COZY TIP OF THE WEEK: Light your candles, even for just a few minutes. A slightly melted wick looks warm and inviting, while an untouched taper candle can make a space feel staged instead of lived in.

3. LITTLE THINGS I’M LOVING:

4. INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW: Do you have a movie that shaped your idea of home the way Father of the Bride did for me? Or maybe a film or show that still inspires your decorating style today? I’d love to know what on-screen home has stayed with you through the years…share with me in comments!

5. FROM MY KITCHEN TO YOURS: This semi-homemade pumpkin bread with a twist is proof that it’s perfectly okay to take a little help from the store. Using a Krusteaz mix with a few simple upgrades, it bakes up moist, flavorful, and full of cozy fall goodness.

6. UPDATING MY WARDROBE:

7. MAKE THIS WITH ME: Create your own custom wrapping paper using plain kraft paper, stamps, and ink. Just roll out the paper, stamp your design, let it dry, and wrap.

8. OVER ON THE ‘GRAM: And speaking of wrapping paper…I shared a reel showing how I covered a picture frame mat with gingham wrapping paper for a quick, festive update. Perfect for showcasing my free Christmas prints!

9. WEEKLY MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE: “What is perfection, anyway? It’s the death of creativity, while change on the other hand, is the cornerstone of new ideas.” ~Diane Keaton

10. PLANNING AHEAD TO THE HOLIDAYS: If you’re hoping to give homemade gifts this year, now’s the perfect time to start. Making them early means you can enjoy the process without feeling rushed.

4. THIS AND THAT: When you buy Christmas gifts, THIS will give you beautiful ideas for wrapping them. I have roasted our Thanksgiving turkey THIS way for decades. It’s perfect every time! THIS is full of cute, non-scary Halloween decorations. THIS is my favorite fall recipe. If you ask yourself what to do with leftover turkey from Thanksgiving, THIS will help. And that’s THAT, friends!

5. FABULOUS FINDS FOR YOUR HOME:

6. BEAUTIFUL HOMES AND IDEAS FOR YOURS: Tour this lovely historic home filled with historic charm and the color green. And let’s skip over the pond to visit Shabby Chic’s founder, Rachel Ashwell, ‘s Somerset home. Finally, tour Bobby Flay’s NYC loft.

7. FUN AND INTERESTING FACTS: Where do we get the word sofa from? What is the 3-5-7 rule?

8. CURATED CLOSET:

9. CULINARY CORNER: APPLE CIDER GLAZED SALMON: Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment. Place 4 (6-oz) salmon fillets, skin side down. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup apple cider, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tbsp Dijon mustard, 1 minced garlic clove, and ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil, then simmer 10–12 minutes until thickened. Brush salmon with glaze, season with salt and pepper, and bake 8–10 minutes, brushing again halfway through. Drizzle with extra glaze and top with sliced green onions.

10. THE LAST WORD: I’m thinking about painting our white buffet. See the image above. The question is what color? I’d love to hear what you think. Leave me a comment. ????

ANSWER TO #7: The word sofa comes from the Arabic word for bench. The 3-5-7 rule suggests that items grouped in odd numbers, and particularly in threes, are perceived as more attractive. Odd numbers create visual balance, movement, and interest, while even numbers often appear too symmetrical or static. Now you know.

Happy Wednesday, friends…

  1. I love the style of the beautiful house in the Hamptons in the movie Somethings Gotta Give. Elegant but relaxed and beachy.

  2. Can’t wait to see what color you choose for the buffet! Maybe a shade of green?
I love the Wednesday news letter so much and appreciate all the time you and the others put into it with home tours, Amazon lists and all the other tidbits, thank you!

    1. Linda, how nice of you to say! We love bringing all the fun, interesting, and helpful things on the lis to you.

  3. I like your buffet as it is but perhaps black-or something very close to black. One black piece in a room seems to always l elevate the style.

  4. Well, of course, I like the buffet white, but if you are going to paint it, I’m thinking a moody shade of blue – not too dark nor too seafoam colored.
