Spring is a beautiful season to bring inside, and it does not take much to make a home feel fresh and welcoming. After a long, snowy winter here in Pennsylvania, I am always ready to make a few simple changes that give my home at Tanglewood a lighter seasonal feel.

One of the easiest ways to decorate for spring is to use the best of what is already around the house. Over the years, I have collected and culled a stash of spring decor, pieces I truly enjoy bringing out when the season changes. Instead of adding lots of new things, I like to decorate with those favorites in simple ways that give a gentle nod to the season. Don’t we love cherished items we bring out once a year? They are so special and meaningful.

Botanicals are always a big part of my spring decorating, both real and faux. Branches, flowers, herbs, and greenery instantly bring a home to life again after winter.

In this spring home tour, I’m sharing how I decorate with what I already have and how to bring a little of spring’s beauty inside. My goal is not to fill every space, but to choose a few meaningful pieces and let them shine.

Now, let me show you how I decorated for spring.

A Spring Welcome In The Foyer

I think of our foyer as a cheerful welcome to our home. It is where we greet guests, where our children come home again, and where our six little grandchildren loudly drop their shoes and are met with a whole lot of love, kisses, and hugs. It welcomes people into our home, but it also quietly welcomes each new season.

I like to keep the foyer simple. This spring, I added a white urn filled with blooming branches to the console table.. For me, spring decorating is mostly about bringing the outdoors inside, and these pretty white blooms feel like a natural transition from the flowering, tree-lined street we live on.

One of my favorite things to do in the spring is repot blooming bulbs and other spring plants and use them around the house. They add such a beautiful burst of springtime and always make a room feel cheerful.

It’s so easy to plant a little viola in a small bowl and tuck it into your decor. When the blooms are spent, just pop in a new viola. I’ve found our family and guests love these little living spring accents. They always comment on them with a smile. I often send them home with the plant they comment on.

The vertical coat hooks hold my favorite straw hat, which I grab when I head out to the garden in the morning, and a basket I often take to market. These everyday items are a small sign that warmer days are here again. They also add texture and a bit of story to this little space.

I kept the bottom shelf of the foyer table very simple with another basket filled with moss, a quiet reminder that spring has arrived.

The Living Room

From our long foyer, the first room you come to is the living room. In our open concept home, it’s important to delineate the rooms. So the arrangement of rugs and furniture is very important and intentional.

When we downsized our home, this room became a collection of my favorite pieces of furniture from StoneGable. The white buffet that once lived in our dining room is now the anchor of our living room.

I usually buy one decor item each season, and this year I found this pretty wicker urn at a local shop and knew it had to come home with me. It will work to hold hydrangeas in the summer and saturated leaves in the fall. I knew a bramby bunch of flowering branches would find a home in the urn for spring. It makes a big statement, so I used faux branches with white blooms to keep it from overwhelming the living room.

I’ve collected spring blooms and branches little by little for years. I look for the most realistic ones I can find, usually on sale. I’ve used them over and over in different ways in almost every room of our home. The ones in the urn are at least a decade old.

I keep our mantel simple. This year, I added ginger jars to it along with a trio of candlesticks. Although the fireplace area is a focal point in the living room, I downplay it so that it does not compete with the white buffet. The artwork is subdued and reflects the beauty of the world outside our front door.

Flanking the fireplace are my spindle chairs. I’ve had these chairs for 15 years. They were an investment that has served us well. I like to add pillows that reflect the season and bring a bit of color to this area. This spring, green floral pillows continue the natural theme in this area.

One important thing to remember when I decorate seasonally is that not every surface needs to be covered with seasonal decor. In fact, too many decorations can be a distraction rather than adding beauty to a room. The curlacue chest is an example. The string-of-pearls on the front adds a decorative element to the living room, so I keep the decor simple on it. A pair of black handsome rabbits sit on a couple of books, and that’s just enough to add a pretty spring element to that part of the room.

It’s the first spring that this coffee table has joined the living room. If you have been following me since our move to the Tanglewood House, this is coffee table #9, and the largest one. Decorating a big coffee table can be a joy and a challenge. Flat surfaces, like coffee tables, are prime decorating real estate and wonderful places to create a story. Storied decor makes a room feel personal, and it’s a chance to say something about the people who live in your home.

I usually like a more-is-more approach to the coffee table, but kept it a bit more quiet. The tray, left over from winter decor, now holds a white vase filled with pink-and-white faux tulips. Spring is tulip time, so they were an obvious choice for the coffee table.

The Dining Room

Our dining room is really more of a dining area. It’s small and very functional, and it connects the living room, kitchen, and sunroom, so it sees a lot of traffic during the day. Because it is such a busy, pass-through space, I like to keep the decorating simple and focus on one larger seasonal focal point.

This spring, I added a bit of blue to our dining room. A pretty blue-and-white vase filled with greenery sits in the center of the table. The color is a little unexpected in this space and brings a fresh feeling to the room.

To balance the vase, I used large glass tortoise shell candleholders that I found at HomeGoods about a decade ago. They were forgotten in the basement for years, and last fall I found them again. Their warm color keeps the centerpiece visually calm and grounded.

I recently had our dining chairs recovered, and they look better than new. To give this room a seasonal look, I added a simple pillow to one of the chairs. It features another handsome rabbit that quietly continues the spring theme in this room.

Simple Spring Home Decorating Ideas For A Cozy Seasonal Home

In the corner of the dining area, a pot of daffodils sits on the bar cart. I love repotting spring flowers and using them around the house. They instantly add life and color to a space.

One little decorating secret that makes any potted bloom look prettier is adding natural companion elements. Adding twine grapevine around the pot and tucking a few curly willow branches among the daffodils adds height and texture. Another natural element I often use in spring arrangements is moss, which always makes a pot feel a little more finished.

I like to keep the dining area simply decorated so nothing competes with the view beyond. The eye can move easily through the room and out the window to the beautiful scenery just outside. Soon, our street and the golf course will be filled with white and pink blooming trees. It’s quite a spectacle and something I eagerly look forward to every year.

From the dining area, let’s take a peek at the round table by the banquette. This little table is such a busy spot in our home. Bobby and I eat breakfast here most mornings, and it often becomes a place for crafts, blogging, Bible study, and whatever else the day brings. The views from the table are ever-changing, bless us with the best of the season outside.

Last fall, I added a very comfortable chair to the table so we don’t have to move the dining chairs when we need an extra seat. It has made this little space even more useful.

The light here is wonderful for plants. Right now, I have a small mix of them gathered together in a round basket. The parsley and bay leaf plants are just waiting for their move to the garden in a couple of weeks. I’m not exactly sure what the other little plant is, but it clearly loves the sunshine that pours through these windows.

The Spring Kitchen

The true heart of our home is the kitchen. I love to cook, craft, and putter with herbs and plants, so you will usually find me in here wearing an apron and creating something. This spring, I’ve been perfecting my sourdough bread, trying my hand at milling my own wheat, and practicing French baguettes.

Our white kitchen gets a lot of use. While it is first and foremost a working kitchen, I still like to live and work surrounded by beauty and things I love. In the spring, that means adding botanicals, dishes, and a few seasonal touches that work naturally with the room.

I brought a large low-sided basket up from the basement to hold a small spring vignette. A rabbit pitcher filled with faux white tulips sits in the basket along with a stack of green dessert plates topped with a little beehive honey container.

These are all Amazon finds collected over the last few years. A candle in a green fluted container and sweet violas planted in an antique bowl round out the arrangement. To finish the vignette, I added a blue-and-white tea towel.

Our U-shaped kitchen makes it such a joy to prep and cook. The wall behind the stove is a great place to add a piece of art.

The only bit of spring I added to this very functional area was a stout little pitcher filled with spearmint. When herbs are growing in our kitchen garden, I love cutting fresh stems and bringing them inside to use in recipes. I found a large spearmint plant at our local Amish greenhouse on sale, brought it home, trimmed most of the stems, and tucked them into this pitcher. The rest of the plant is waiting in the garage until I can plant it in a big pot outside.

Our coffee station also got a little makeover this spring. Baskets play an important role in the decor at Tanglewood. I have loved them since I was a teenager.

I added a large low-sided basket that holds our coffee containers, sugar bowl, mugs, some pretty grape hyacinths, and a small plant. This little area always makes me smile when I pour my first cup of coffee in the morning.

I opened the glass cabinet to show you how I styled it for spring. Green, blue, and white are among the most popular spring colors this year.

I naturally gravitate toward warm neutrals, but I do enjoy adding touches of blue and green this time of year.
