Spiritual Breakfast
What did you have for breakfast this morning? I had oatmeal! Not the instant kind, but the real deal. The stand-over-the-stove-and-stir cooked oatmeal. I added milk, a little brown sugar, walnuts, and fruit. I’m not sure what chia seeds do, but I added a sprinkling of them too. Yummy!
Today’s post is a gentle reminder to eat your breakfast!
I don’t eat oatmeal just because it is a delicious breakfast. It is also a powerhouse of protein, iron, and fiber. It gives my body energy, fills me up, and helps me stay healthy. Oatmeal is good for me, and a good thing to do in the morning! Did you know that spending time with God in the morning is a whole lot like eating oatmeal for breakfast?
Just like oatmeal, God’s word has amazing benefits. It’s good for us. Nourishing us by teaching us, showing us where we are getting off track, feeding us with truth, and training us to be in right standing with God! And more!
God’s word is spiritual food! We need it to be spiritually healthy! Just like breakfast, we need spiritual food in the morning to start our day off right! Skipping breakfast is bad for our physical health, and skipping time in God’s Word is bad for our spiritual health.
So eat your breakfast and spend time with God every day! It’s good for you!
This week’s verse to think about:
THY WORD IS A LAMP UNTO MY FEET AND A LIGHT UNTO MY PATH. Psalm 119:105

Yvonne, love your blog and read it every day. Your Spiritual advice is always on point and today is Sunday, so I will be in church in a couple of hours.
About Oatmeal…I grew up in a home with both parents and grandparents. It was such a blessing. My grandmother was a great cook. She taught me a trick about cooking oatmeal. Start it in cold water instead of boiling water. Cook it slow stirring often. It will turn out MUCH creamier than cooking it in boiling water. Then, add butter, sugar of choice, cream and the other toppings of your choice. Try the cold water method. I think you will agree.
Blessings always,
Vicki
Hi Yvonne, I enjoy your column. FYI, you can make your oatmeal in the microwave. 3 minutes on high. I eat old fashioned oatmeal 6 days a week! 1/3 cup oatmeal, 3/4 chopped apple, 2 tbsps. raisins, cinnamon, 2/3 cup hot water. Stir, microwave on high for 3 minutes. Then add your milk after. Yummy! Enjoy.
Thanks for the recipe. And the recipe for spiritual food is in a book! The Bible
Such a simple message and so true. Thank you. Hope your Sunday is beautiful.
I enjoyed your post on spiritual breakfast today. As a little girl my grandma always made oatmeal for my brothers and I. She said it was comfort food for your heart and soul.I always got the part of good for your heart but the soul part of what my grandma said never really resonated with me, until I read your post. Thanks Yvonne, you made my day!
You are very welcome!
I loved your message this morning and how you related breakfast with God, thank you for sharing with us all.
You are so welcome, Lakisha! God bless you.
Well said, I totally agree. One must have God’s words to carry with us during the day to help drown out the noises of the world. Thanks for the reminder
You are so right.
Such inspiring comments this morning! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and wise advice this morning. We were raised with a good bowl of oats and prayers at every meal. These things have stayed with me for a lifetime and Gods words have given me the strength and confidence to get through this life! Enjoy your week
What a good way to be raised!
Love the spiritual breakfast analogy. Starting our day in His Word is lifechanging. Have a blessed week.
Amen!
Such an important reminder. Loved it.
