Summer Centerpiece: basket with Swedish Ivy

Summer is the time to bring the outdoors inside and create simple beauty in your home. One of my favorite ways to add an effortless layer of the season is to create a centerpiece using what I find outside my front door, or at our local nursery. This is such an economical and fresh way to decorate.

Start With a Sturdy Basket

I’ve never found I basket I did not love! There is someting about their simple utilitarian beauty, shape and texture that connects memories of my grandmother’s home. She did not decorate with them but used them to hold clothespins or onions or other odds and ends.

I’m using a stand in basket for today’s post. I’ve ordered one with scalloped edges that has not gotten here yet. The key to this centerpiece basket is that it needs to be the right size for your table and deep enough to hold containers that hold plants or cut flowers.

  2. Beautiful! I love the simplicity of this arrangement and my daughter loves to collect flowers on walks, so this would be a good way to save them and let her know they’re appreciated!
