FALL HOME TOUR

Can you feel it? It’s fall—fall is in the air! In my four-season area, we are now waking up to cool mornings and going to bed with windows open and an extra layer of covers. The days are sparkling and warm but not hot. I’ve been waiting a year for days and nights like these, and finally, they are here.

I’ve been decorating for fall inside for over a month, and I’m thrilled nature has caught up. Welcome to our Fall Home Tour…

Thank you to Marty at A Stroll Thru Life for hosting this annual event. A special welcome to all coming to StoneGable from A Thrift Store Addiction. Cecilia is a creative and talented blogger who loves gardening and thrifting and “finds beauty in imperfection.”

Early fall is an almost magical time here in Lancaster County. It’s where summer and fall meet, offering us the best of both seasons. Here at the Tanglewood House, I’m also in early fall decorating mode. For me, decorating is a process that ebbs and flows. Seasonal decorating starts with just a few centerpieces and pillows, and as the season moves on, I continue to layer seasonal decor.

So far, fall decor has been understated and simple. And really, isn’t that how we should decorate? I’ve concentrated on adding organic elements to our home. This is my favorite way to decorate!

I think it is important to listen to your home and decorate it accordingly. Our home is very open, and I can see parts of four other rooms from the living room. So, keeping decor edited, cohesive, and calm is very important. When looking through one room into another, I want everything to play nicely together, creating a storied home. And that takes time.

Our home has lots of windows, which are wonderful to live with! It’s bright all the time. I love how the light plays with our soft white wall color, creating all sorts of variations depending on the room and the time of day. Early morning and late afternoon into evening are my favorite times to see the interplay of light, wall color, and furnishings in our home.

There’s something I want to show you to start our tour…

In the background, against the dining area wall, I added three chamber pot lids, which I used in the dining room of our StoneGable home. There was just enough wall to add something interesting. Do you like to hang dishes and other pottery on your walls? They are chamber pot lids, but I love their design.

FALL HOME TOUR

If you look out the window, you can see that fall is working its magic on some of the trees around our home. Inside, our fall color story this year almost matches- tan, butterscotch, caramel, brown, and a hint of green. I just added two new black side tables flanking our sofa and two matching gourd lamps. The tables are small, so they are lightly decorated with natural elements.

FALL HOME TOUR

In front of the window is a vintage plant stand with a surprising little plant. I love planting perennials indoors to enjoy for a short time. I consider them long-lasting cut flowers. This perennial, planted in a pedestal bowl, is a coral bell. I planted it early in the spring and thought it would look pretty in the living room for a few weeks, but it thrived! So, it stayed. And now it is part of our fall decor.

This fall, I’ve already planted a few mums to enjoy. There’s one later in the post.

FALL HOME TOUR

The white buffet is my favorite place in our living room to add seasonal decor. This year, I used a large urn shaped like a gar and filed fall branches, as well as a lidded candle and textural box. I just love fall colors and textures!

Because the mantel has a large piece of artwork over it, decorating it has always been simple. Most of the time, I put a trio of candles flanking either side of the artwork. But this fall, I used white ginger jars with a faux fall branch in each. The colors in the leaves work with the painting, keeping the mantel cohesive.

I already had all but a few things I used to decorate for early fall. This year, it’s a real use what you have fall home tour. The oak branches on the mantel are some of my favorites. I only wish I had bought a few more!

FALL HOME TOUR

The artwork over the mantel is a homage to where we live. You can see it HERE.

Across from the fireplace are our sofa and coffee table. I filled the sofa with fall-inspired pillows, including the new plaid pillow. I’m a big fan of geometrics, especially plaids and stripes! I think these pillows might work as an accent with my Christmas colors and decor.

The swivel chair is new to the living room. It came from the sunroom. I like to move furniture around from one room to another. Especially chairs and lamps. The lamp in the dining area in the background on the bar cart came from the foyer.

When I do a home tour, I like to feature different views of our home. In October, we will be living in our Tanglewood House for five years. Time flies! We love living here. It’s our second forever home, and it is such an easy home to live in.

Our coffee table is lightly decorated with four small stacks of books, a large tortoiseshell candle, and a gold bowl of foraged organic items I’ve collected over the years. Not everything was foraged, but it was collected. I have several containers of small pinecones, acorns, dried gourds, and other fall fluff. I use it in so many ways. If you don’t have a box of fluff, i.e., small natural items, start collecting them now.

FALL HOME TOUR

This is an easy way to bring some interesting seasonal items to your fall home! It’s all about the bowl. I chose a gold metal bowl to juxtapose the textural, natural pinecones, acorns, sweet gum balls, dried gourds, and more.

FALL HOME TOUR

Just think of all the places you could tuck a bowl like this in your home!

On the way to take a quick look at our kitchen, I just want to mention the basket of hydrangeas on the dining room table. I picked them up about three weeks ago. They were bright green when I brought them inside, and now they have dried to beautiful muted shades of light green. Some are even tinged with pink.

Drying Hydrangeas in the fall could not be easier! Check out How To Dry Beautiful Showy Hydrangeas The Easy Way. Hydrangeas are an important part of early fall to me!

I love to plant fall outdoor plants indoors! This year, I planted a red mum and a couple of varieties of ornamental cabbage in a white drink urn. It will last for weeks. I just water it and deadhead it as needed, and when it looks tired, I replant another one.

The little gourds next to the baby boo pumpkins are called Kentucky Spinner. They are heavy for their size, and when you twirl them between your thumb and fingers, they spin… and fast. My grandkids love them.

Before we go, let’s take a quick look at some of the fall highlights of our kitchen. Look for a more in-depth fall kitchen tour at the beginning of October.

If you have been following StoneGable, you probably know… 1) my love of coffee and 2) how I enjoy having a seasonal coffee bar in the kitchen. There is something special about getting my morning coffee in an area with a bit of pretty seasonal decor.

FALL HOME TOUR

I also add tea and cider to the coffee bar for fall when we have overnight guests or family. Tucking something organic into this area is a must. It could be flowers from my garden, herbs, or a jar of acorns—always something seasonal. I love this textural boxwood ball this time of year!

Here are a few coffee posts you might enjoy…

I’ve been collecting brown and white plates and other dishware lately. So, a few days ago, Bobby hung some of them up on a wall in our kitchen. I love the look, and it adds to the cozy quotient in our kitchen!

The rectangle stoneware platter is so special to me. It is the only thing I have from my Father’s side of the family. My great aunt Kate, Daddy’s sister, gave it to me. I love seeing it in our kitchen every day.

I’m still harvesting fresh herbs from our herb garden. I like to cut different herbs and put them in a creamer or other small container to use when I cook. Honestly, even if I didn’t cook, I’d just keep fresh herbs on my counter because they make me so happy!

Basil, mint, oregano, thyme, and chives are tucked into the cute coffee mug in the back of the sink. Mmmm, can you smell them?

Well, friends, I think it’s time to send you on your way to enjoy a few other wonderful Fall Home Tours! Stop back here all week and check out the home to tour. See the lineup below.

Thank you for another beautiful tour, Yvonne! Sometimes I struggle to get a decent photo in my home and have to wait for a ‘good day’ when the light is just right but your home always looks bright and inviting no matter the season. I love the idea of using chamber pot lids and plates on the walls. I have a few decorative plates that never see the light of day, maybe I’ll see if I can find a spot for them on one of the walls in the kitchen – thanks for the inspo, and happy fall!
